Music Therapy

1. What does a music therapist do?

A music therapist provides music therapy services to individuals and groups in order to assist them in dealing with special challenges and illness, social relationships and learning disorders, loneliness and isolation, self-confidence and self-esteem. The music therapist performs an assessment of the individual and recommends a treatment plan. Based on the client's specific needs, a treatment plan may include singing, improvising, song writing, movement, marching, playing percussion instruments or listening to their preferred style of live or pre-recorded music. Clients are encouraged to become involved in the music making activities, although performance is not the ultimate goal of this treatment modality.
